If you thought my stories were short take a look at these! I picked up Lydia Davis's collection of short stories (some of them micro short!) entitled Can't and Won't from the library and I'm really enjoying it. I'm always drawn to storytellers that use very short sentences, maybe because I tend to think in long run on sentences so the brevity seems exotic or maybe just because I have a twitter generation attention span. | Teeny tiny stories in Can't and Won't by Lydia Davis |

Books About Frida Kahlo Bookcub is a new category in my blog for chatting about books: some music related, some not. Please feel free to have a few glasses of wine, eat a load of crisps and argue about which Harry Potter book was best...that's what people do at bookclubs right?

Betty Carter & John Field BiographiesThe thing I find with biographies is that I don't really care about a particular musician's life story unless knowing it reveals something more about their music. It either enlightens their work or it's their own personal business that, no matter how dramatic, is of no consequence or interest to me. What makes Betty Carter's biography so great is that all the funny anecdotes, witty quotes and stories about the circumstances in which the music was made tell you so much about the music itself. |
