There are so many people and organisations that contributed to the making of this album in so many ways and I’d like to thank them all here. Firstly I’d like to thank The Arts Council for funding the creation of the album and for supporting the arts in Ireland.
A number of arts institutions supported the creation of this album in various ways, from hosting workshops with children for me to test out songs, to offering rehearsal space free of charge. These organisations are invaluable to the arts in Ireland and I’d like to sincerely thank them for their show of confidence in the work that I do: The National Concert Hall, The Improvised Music Company, The Ark cultural centre for children, The Ark’s Children’s Council, Dublin Central Library and NEIC.
I’d also like to thank the incredibly skilled and talented musicians who performed on the album : the core band is Séan Carpio, Mathew Halpin, Izumi Kimura and Neil Ó Loċlainn, along with special guest performances from Niwel Tsumbu, Emilie Conway, and Farah Elle.
You will hear the voices of many children on the album and I’d like to thank them all including children from The Ark Children’s Council, Central Remedial Clinic School Clontarf, Scoil Lorcáin and Central Model School. There are many children who you do not hear on the album but who contributed none the less by sharing their insights, opinions and ideas with me. I won’t list the names of the individual children here because I’d like to protect their privacy.
I’d like to thank the engineers who worked on this album with me : David McCune (full band recordings in studio), Alex Borwick (mix engineer) and Karl Odlum (mastering engineer).
I’d also like to thank musicians who you don’t hear on the album itself but who facilitated workshops with me during the development of the songs including Graham Heaney and Dominic Mullan
There are many adult voices heard throughout the album including Timmy Creedy, Muhammad Achour, Yuzuha O'Halloran, Peter Moc, Joanna Whitty, Steven McNamara and many more. Thank you to Ciara Hall, proofreader of the Irish language lyrics on the album.
Lastly I’d like to thank you, the listener, for being curious and taking the time to listen. I hope you enjoy the songs and have a good dance around your classroom or kitchen!
The album is finished but the Úlla Búlla project isn’t. I will be sharing a variety of games, teaching resources and activities to accompany the songs over the coming months. Keep an eye on my social media and website to keep up to date.
Beir bua!
