Thank you to everyone who's been funding the album and helping to spread the good word. There's a little over a week left on the campaign and we've already reached over 80%.

You might have noticed I haven’t been updating the website very often lately. There’s a pretty simple explanation for that: I’ve been busy finishing my album!
Bookcub is a new category in my blog for chatting about books: some music related, some not. Please feel free to have a few glasses of wine, eat a load of crisps and argue about which Harry Potter book was best...that's what people do at bookclubs right? Betty Carter & John Field BiographiesThe thing I find with biographies is that I don't really care about a particular musician's life story unless knowing it reveals something more about their music. It either enlightens their work or it's their own personal business that, no matter how dramatic, is of no consequence or interest to me. What makes Betty Carter's biography so great is that all the funny anecdotes, witty quotes and stories about the circumstances in which the music was made tell you so much about the music itself. Well I haven't been tending to my blog lately, but I've a great excuse...I've been busy making lots of music!
The album still isn't finished but thank you to everyone who's been showing interest and asking how its coming along! I'm working on it I promise! I have however been in and out of studio with Dig A Little Deeper recording new material with a completely new sound. I wish I could post up some tracks coz they're sounding very exciting but none of it is ready to be let loose yet, and probably won't be for a while. All I can say is we've been working with some brilliant producers in incredible studios. It's great to see the National Concert Hall broadening it's programming to include more international Jazz acts. In the last few months we've seen Keith Jarret, Kurt Elling, Brandford Marsallis and now Dianne Reeves. Yo Teach! is a new category in my blog where I'll be writing about music education and also posting resources. I'll be writing from my point of view as a both a student and a teacher.
I rarely tell my students to practice piano. I do however encourage them to play piano. I was down in a studio in West Cork recording with Dig A Little Deeper this past weekend. While the sun was shining we made sure to get out and enjoy some of the beautiful walks around Sheep's Head peninsula.
I hope you like the new website. Now that I have a dedicated blog on my website I'll be choosing some of my favourite blog posts from my old blog and archiving them over here and I'll be blogging much more regularly.
I've also organised the blog into categories to make everything easier to find. Posts from before 2013, including this one, are re-posted from my original blogger profile. Some links may no longer work.
Usually when people ask me who my influences are I prattle off a list that goes something like: Joni Mitchell, Ani DiFranco, Tori Amos...etc. and it's not a lie BUT a big part of the reason I list those names is also because I know they are names people will recognise and relate to. The names I don't mention but which probably have just as much influence on my music are my peers. Posts from before 2013, including this one, are re-posted from my original blogger profile. Some links may no longer work. I had so much fun making my Venn Diagram the other day that I decided to make some more (click on the images to view them larger) Mahalia Jackson
