Sing Along Adventures with the Rí Rá Rag Tag Band

"Sing Along Adventures is an interactive musical exploration for children. Join our ragtag team of musicians on a journey through songs from around the world, and follow our musical map on our quest to find the magic cherry blossom tree! The event is primarily intended for children aged 3-7, with a parent/guardian to be present. Join in the fun on this singing, dancing musical adventure!"

Sing Along Adventures with the Rí Rá Rag Tag Band is a show I was commissioned to develop for The National Concert Hall. It was performed with Lucie O'Flynn and Micheal Chanda.

Woven through the story were traditional folk songs in various languages (Bantu, French, Japanese, Irish...etc.) from different parts of the world, as well as dances and folk stories.

A large hand painted map acted as a visual guide through the performance and shaped the form of the show: between each scene children would help us to consult the map to see where we needed to go next on our adventure.

The show was fully interactive with the audience participating along the way in a very organic, communal way; audiences danced and sang along,
they mimed rowing an hiking along the adventure, they sometimes even performed songs or rhymes of their own.

Although the show was scripted I made sure when designing the show that children would feel they had agency in the story as it unfolded.
